Kerala, historically known as Keralam formed on 1st of November 1956 with a population of 3.33 Cr spread across 14 districts with Thiruvananthapuram as its capital. Kerala is also famously known as “Gods Own Country” or “Land of Coconut Tress” & “Spice Garden of India”. Legends state that Kerala was created by Parshuram (a famous ancient sage) that’s why it’s called Gods Own Country. Vasco da Gama discovered the sea route to India from Europe when he landed near Calicut in 1498 AD. Malayalam is the official language of Kerala & one of the interesting aspect of MALAYALAM spelling is that it is a Palindrome, ie it can be read same backwards as forwards. Kerala is the richest states in India with forests & plantations of rubber, cashew, and coconuts. It has a particularly rich heritage of dance & drama such as Kathakali, Koothu & Mohiniattam. Kerala is renowned all over the world for its backwaters, natural beauty, health resorts & beach.
